This web directory of independent specialists -all unique to Brighton and Hove- is the most visible part of our campaign to support a sustainable and diverse local economy. We started it in August 2005, originally as an offshoot of a Claritymark project about local food.

Based on word of mouth and recommendations we made a directory of independent food outlets, then added five other shopping categories in 2006.

We applied our experience in advising publishers on digital resources to  showcase and promote Brighton's local independent places and local events.

One of our favourite unique places each month is usually featured in the Brighton Visitor Magazine

All the listed businesses started out as 'unique to Brighton and Hove' specialists.As well as that they all have something extra special about the origins of their products - a focus on quality.

Most of the photos were taken by Neil and Sam- who can be spotted reflected in some of the windows!
