The Survival Tour elephants - on their way to Brighton!

We're really looking forward to the arrival of the Survival Tour Elephants in Brighton. These amazing, lifesize topiary elephants, who will take up residence in The Royal Pavilion Gardens from the 19th to the 30th September as the final part of the Survival Tour.

This fantastic conservation event is being organised by Elephant Family, The World Land Trust and The Royal Parks Foundation. Deborah Meaden and Theo Paphitis, from the Dragon's Den, have made sure that transporting the entire fleet is carbon - free by providing the tour with 100% bio-diesel haulage.

The Survival Tour's aim is to draw attention to securing the vital wildlife corridor between Tirunelli and Kudrakote in Kerala, India. This strip of land is essential to elephant survival as it connects herds, reunites family members and creates a safe path to their food.

There are lots of ways to get involved and to support this campaign.

If you can't wait to see the Survival Tour elephants in Brighton, they are in Selfridges, London until the 26th August.

We'll be waiting to see them in the Pavilion Gardens Cafe.

Brighton Permaculture events

Brighton Permaculture Trust is now taking bookings for a new range of events and courses - all promoting greener lifestyles and sustainable development.

Of particular interest is the film The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil.

It's about how Cubans responded to the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990 by using every inch of space to grow food. These inspiring city gardens were a response to food and oil imports falling by 80%.

© Michael Levenston

The film is followed by a talk by Cuban permaculture expert
Roberto Perez, who features in the film.

It would be wonderful to see developments like this in Brighton.

This event is being run in partnership with the
University of Brighton, School of Architecture and Design, the Design Research Institute,Brighton & Hove Food Partnership,
Transition Brighton and Hove,Transition Town Lewes,Transition Town Shoreham and other Sussex transition towns.
